Don’t know the gender of your baby yet and in a rush to get the nursery decoration done. Don’t worry; I’ve put together some few fun decorating ideas to get the ball rolling.
Many parents will already know the gender of their child and will design their nursery decorations accordingly. However, not knowing if it’s a boy or a girl can make decorating the nursery a bit of a problem, but designing for the unknown gender can also be great fun. Let’s get started – first things first.
Before you do anything find a starting place. Maybe choose a unique colour palette or fabric designs to begin the creation of this very special place.
Choosing a unique colour is a great place to start you designs. Combine colours and textures and maybe focus in on soft blues and yellows.
Pale yellow is always a good choice as the room will always feel fresh and bright both in the dark days of winter and in the wonderful sunny days of summer. You can be bold with blue these days as it’s not just a boy’s colour. There are a number of subtle new shades of turquoise and periwinkle blue that are equally suitable for boy and girls.
The Trimmings.
Luxurious cotton fabrics and rich textures such as soft waffles and cottons will combine beautifully for a sophisticated neutral palette and it’s fairly easy to add coordinating accessories later. Try cheerful toile, colourful nursery prints or crib bedding with gingham trims when choosing your baby nursery bedding and upholstery.
If you want a theme for your nursery decoration, your childhood favorite nursery rhythms or soft toys such as bunnies or teddy bears which are not gender specific would allow you to bring some of your own childhood favorites into your baby’s room. Both of these themes are very well suited for your yellow and blue colour schemes.
It’s also important to focus on the space that is comfortable and cozy for you and for your baby – there’ll be plenty of time later when you will have opportunities to add additional furnishings and accessories as your baby grows.
Have you ever thought of putting a chandelier in the nursery? Many lighting companies now are catering to children’s design and are creating chandeliers in fun colours and characters and easily coordinate with bedding designs. Add a dimmer switch then this fun light could be very useful for checking on your sleeping baby. You can add gender appropriate details later such as wall art, pictures and other accents.
It’s also quite important to keep the evolution of your nursery in mind when choosing your nursery furniture. Cots and cot beds come in a variety of colours and finishes and are usually gender neutral. By the way, choosing a cot bed over a simple cot will save money down the line when your baby is ready to transfer to their very own ‘grown up’ bed. Most cot beds convert very easily into a junior bed. Consider too, a chest of drawers that will look good once the changing table has been removed.
The most important thing is to have fun! You will spend nearly as much time in the nursery as your baby and therefore you should be proud of this special place that you have created for you precious little one.
